Halloween Fun for the Whole Family at Butterfly Pavilion’s Bug-A-Boo Trick-or-Treating Join us this October for a family-friendly Halloween tradition at Butterfly Pavilion—Bug-A-Boo. This annual event brings together the fun of trick-or-treating with the chance to experience the wonders of invertebrates in a safe, indoor setting. Children of all ages are encouraged to come dressed in costume during the last two weekends of October, any time between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and make their way through candy and toy stations set up throughout the zoo. Treats are shared through creative candy funnels disguised as a butterfly’s proboscis or a spider’s arm, adding a playful twist to the experience. Highlights of Bug-A-Boo: Safe Trick-or-Treating: Collect candy and toys at themed stations throughout the zoo in a family-friendly, indoor atmosphere designed for all ages. Invertebrate Encounters: Meet butterflies, beetles, tarantulas, and other fascinating invertebrates while exploring the zoo. Spider Zone: Step into a living web where hundreds of orb-weaving spiders spin their intricate creations all around you. These skilled builders produce silk strong enough to catch bats or birds, offering a rare chance to see spiders at work up close—no glass, no barriers. Learning Opportunities: Discover how spiders and other invertebrates play vital roles in the environment, from keeping insect populations in balance to supporting healthy ecosystems. Halloween Costume Photo Contest: Snap a photo of your costume during your October visit and enter for a chance to win prizes—families, kids, and adults are all welcome to participate. Why We Celebrate Spiders Bug-A-Boo isn’t only about Halloween—it’s also a chance to foster appreciation for spiders and the critical role they play in our world. This experience gives guests the opportunity to see spiders up close, learn about their extraordinary skills, and better understand why they matter. Spiders are expert builders, pest managers, and key players in ecosystems, helping maintain balance in nature. At Butterfly Pavilion, we work to give spiders the spotlight they deserve—to show off their wide array of talents and highlight their importance in the environment. By connecting guests to these often misunderstood animals, we hope to replace fear with curiosity and inspire a deeper respect for these fascinating invertebrates.
